Packing list for Everest Base Camp Trek

Everest Base Camp Trek Packing List:

Clothing Items

Begin with the list of must-have clothing items to trek to EBC. In general, people believe the more clothes are on, the warmer it gets. But it is an absolutely wrong concept. To stay warm in dropping temperatures, you need to adopt a system of several layers, ie. base layer, insulation layer, and then outer layer.

Base Layer

The base layer means the clothes that you wear at first, attached to your skin. As you walk up to the higher points of the trek, you are going to need this layer that will provide you warmth to cope with the cold temperature. Be conscious while choosing the base layers.

Make sure you choose fit and comfortable clothes made of wool or synthetic fibers. These clothes are literally good at observing moisture keeping your skin dry and warm all time long.

Insulation Layer

This refers to the clothes that can be worn after the base layer. The clothes with fleece or fur can be worn next to the base layer. Make sure that you do not pack too thick jackets or hoodies. Instead, get some thinner clothes with fleece and fur. They will provide you with super comfort and warmth at the same time.

Outer Layer

The outer layer is the last piece of clothes that you will be wearing after the insulation layer. It includes down jackets, waterproof jackets, and trousers. Remember that you should be wearing these clothes whenever you reach cold places during the trek. A lightweight breathable outer layer keeps you warm during unpredictable cold weather.

Hats and Beanies

The need for the type of hat depends on the weather of the altitude. If it is warm over there, you can use a wide-brimmed hat that protects your face from the sun and avoids sunburn. On the contrary, if it is cold weather, you should bring warm soft beanies. It protects your head and ear against the freezing cold weather at high altitudes.

Neck gaiter

It is a piece of cloth that will cover your neck keeping you warm all day long and protecting you from getting cold. As the weather up in the altitude is much colder, the cold air enters your body through breath and may cause coughing, common cold, and throat discomfort too. But if you have a warm neck gaiter on your neck, it will protect you from all these.

Gloves

You need to put on your gloves during the journey to the EBC trek to save your hands from getting frostbite and numb. For this purpose, you can bring two types of gloves. A pair of inner gloves and a pair of outer waterproof gloves. The inner gloves can be worn when you are trekking in the lower altitude and as you head towards the upper part make sure you wear warm-out waterproof gloves. Just do not go bare hands.

Hiking boots and trekking shoes

Footwear is much more important for the EBC trek. Make sure you wear absolutely warm shoes during the trek. The more comfortable and warm your shoes are, the easier it is for you to trek up to the Everest Base Camp.

The ideal footwear for the trek is mid to high-cut hiking boots as you have to walk on all types of terrain including forested trails, rough terrains, glacier moraine, and icy paths, and the comfortable hiking boots and trekking shoes provide ankle support and protect your feet.

Hiking Socks

Not only the shoes, but you also need to use comfortable hiking socks during the trek. Hiking socks mean merino wool socks that are breathable and moisture-absorbing. Do not forget to bring 4 to 5 pairs of good merino socks. They do not even let the sweat bother you with their smell.

Lip Balm

As you will be just walking and walking up to the Himalayas, your lips will remain dry all time long. To prevent your lips from dryness and protect against the cold, bring a lip balm along with you.

Sleeping gear: sleeping bag, pillowcase

In the Everest Base Camp Trek Packing List the most important thing need to care is sleeping gear that you must bring for a comfortable sleep. Though you will be provided a room with a bed and blankets by the lodge during the trek, you should bring your sleeping bag, it will be cleaner than the blankets in the lodge and warmer as well. It is better if you bring sleeping bags rated at -15 degrees Celsius. Moreover, please bring a soft pillow with you for a good nap.

Water bottles and hydration bladder

The most important thing during the trek is to keep yourself hydrated all the time. For this purpose, carry a water bottle along with you during the whole trek. Make sure that the bottle carries both hot and cold water in it and is reusable. You can refill the bottle whenever it is possible.

Pee funnel

If you are a female, bring a pee funnel with you for your convenience. As you will not see a hotel or lodge every now and then during the trek, it is uneasy for you to pee whenever you need to. But the pee funnel will provide you an ease with this.

Raincover

As you may also experience light rain during the trek, we suggest you bring a rain cover along with you. The rain in this weather may cause more difficulty for you in the context of the common cold as well as in the context of a slippery path. So please bring a durable rain cover along with you.

Bags and backpacks

As you are gonna walk up for a long time through the trails with no shops at all, make sure you carry a durable and reliable 30-50L backpack. You can use a duffle bag that is super-comfortable to carry and strong enough to hold all your belongings throughout the trek. You can also bring some dry bags with you for packing shoes or wet and dirty clothes.

Sunglasses and head torch

The higher the altitude gets, the stronger the UV rays and intense sun can be, which means there is a high chance that your eyes will get affected by the intense sun. So please do not forget to bring sunglasses along with you. They will protect your eyes against the UV rays.

Likewise, you will also need a head torch as there are some days when you need to begin the walk early in the morning before the sun rises and also late in the evening. As there is not so sufficient facility for lights on the trail, you need to bring a head torch with some extra batteries to support you throughout the trek.

High energy snacks

We suggest you bring some sort of high-energy snacks during the trek. It can be chocolates, sweets, and nuts that are lightweight yet high in calories.

Hand sanitizer and wet wipes

It is absolutely true that you may not get a chance to clean your hands and face every time you want. So please bring some wet wipes to wipe off all the specks of dirt from the skin without water. Moreover, bring a sanitizer to sanitize your hands every time you want to wash your hands.

Toiletries such as toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste, and soap

You are fully responsible for your hygiene during the trek. So you are supposed to bring toiletries such as toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste, and soaps on your own. But consider the weight limit at the time.

Microfiber towel

It might be uncomfortable for you to use the towels provided by the lodges as they have been used by a number of people several times. So we suggest you not forget to bring a microfiber towel with you during the trek. Why a microfiber towel? Because it is lightweight, absorbs water sooner, dries quickly, and is a perfect fit for a long trek.

Camera

It is the most essential thing that you need every time you go to visit some most beautiful places. You can bring a camera according to your choice, to capture the moments and the scenery during the trek. However, you can use your mobile phone if you do not feel like bringing the cameras.

Chargers and batteries

Make sure you bring the chargers of all the electronics that you bring for the EBC trek. Further you need to bring spare batteries for accessories like a head torch. Most of the places there is no electricity in the EBC root and it can ruin your trek so better to carry the extra charger and batteries of your electic accesories.

Personal first aid kit

A first aid kit is mandatory for the weeks-long trek as it is the most important thing. You may bring it on your own preference. It may include personal prescriptions, antibiotics, medical tape, diamox. Mainly include the basic medicines that help your high altitude sickness.
